Chinchilla Persian

General Information:
The Chinchilla Persian, also known as the ‘Sterling’ is a beautiful, fairy-like creature with a sweet gentle disposition.

One of the most beautiful Persians, the Chinchilla is everything a loving house pet should be. He is sweet, adaptable and loving. While he does adjust well to new situations, because he is such a placid creature, he is best suited for adult homes.

History:
The earliest recorded Chinchilla, named Silver Lambkin, was the foundation for this striking breed. His distinctive and unique coloring brought much attention in London cat shows in the late 19th century. Some maintain that the Chinchilla is not a separate breed, but rather only a color variant of the widely known Persian. Others hold that because of the subtle differences it must be classified as a unique breed. In support of its separate breed status, several registries such as TICA have recognized it as such.

Description:
The Chinchilla Persian is utterly gorgeous, with a stunning long white coat that is gently frosted with black or silvery tips. The delicate tipping causes his coat to appear silvery and perhaps this is where the name ‘Sterling’ comes from. Remarkably, this cat is born almost entirely black with tabby markings. As the Chinchilla kitten matures, his coat changes to the glorious white and silver frosted coat that is the hallmark of this breed. In
addition to his silky coat, the Chinchilla is also blessed with striking blue-green or emerald eyes. These expressive eyes are large and round, contributing to his elegant appearance. The Chinchilla is said to have a melodic quiet voice. Unlike other Persians, which are typically very stocky, the Chinchilla is less stout in body type. In spite of their fairy-like appearance the Chinchilla remains a sturdy cat, like other Persians. Like other Persians, the Chinchilla has a long coat, which needs frequent grooming to prevent tangles and matting.
