General Information:
If you think that all cats are aloof and
not interested in people, you have never met a Ragamuffin. This highly
social cat is one of the most sweet and loving felines in cat fancy today.
Description:
A very large cat, the Ragamuffin males
range from 15 to 20+ pounds, while females typically weight 9-14 pounds.
One of the hallmarks of this breed is their sweet, loving expression. Their
rabbit-like, plush, long coats can only be described as luxurious. In addition
to being beautiful, unlike Persians, this coat is relatively resistant
to matting. This striking cat is accepted in a wide range of colors and
patterns.
Temperment:
The Ragamuffin possesses a disposition
that is described by some as 'puppy-like'. The Ragamuffin is gentle, sweet,
loving, and highly affectionate. A highly intelligent breed, the Ragamuffin
is able to be leash trained, as well as displaying a remarkable ability
to learn voice commands. A fun loving cat, the Ragamuffin can be seen acting
like a kitten well into their adult lives. If you are looking for a feline
who is snuggly and cuddly look no further, this cat loves to be loved,
and equally loves returning all of the affection you so openly bestow upon
him. They are a very relaxed, laid-back breed. They are warm and open to
all displaying great patience with children they make ideal pets for families
with kids. They are an inquisitive cat, always appearing where the action
is.
Because the Ragamuffin is such a sweet,
trusting breed, they should never be allowed outdoors. Their unquestioning
nature leaves them highly susceptible to danger, because they think everyone
and everything should be their friends. They are almost entirely lacking
in natural defense mechanisms because their naïve, open love leaves
them fearless of people and other animals. It is not bravery but blind
trust that causes this
behavior.
Care:
Because the coat of the Ragamuffin is
resistant to matting, maintenance is relatively easy. These cats only need
regular brushing and combing to remove loose hair. The Ragamuffin may request
more frequent grooming, as this breed LOVES to be brushed!
