General Information:
The Missouri Rex is a member of one of
the most fascinating cat breeds- the Rex. With gorgeous curls it is easy
to see how anyone could fall in love with this distinctive and unusual
feline.
One of the most recent among the Rex breed type, the Missouri Rex was first seen in Missouri, United States, hence the name. The gene, which causes the curls in the Missouri Rex, is recessive and is different than that of the Devon and Cornish Rex. The difference between genes was tested by performing several crossbreeding experiments between the breeds. No litters produced curly kittens. A very rare breed, it has been said only three Missouri Rex cats exist in the world today. It has been said that these low numbers are due to mismanagement of funds within the breeding organization that began this stunning new breed. Whether or not this new breed gains in numbers and popularity remains to be seen.
